Project Description:
Chinese Medicine introduce the boiling of a variety of herbs to make a bowl/pot of concentrated soup that is believed to be the medicine to cure or mitigate different illness. Dissolved Organic Matter (DOM) places a vital role on the formation of the concentrated soup with the addition of heat energy by simply boil the ingredients. Duration of boiling is hypothesized to conduct an effective performance on the soup concentration which suggests that the longer the boiling, the more concentrated the soup will be. This project promote one of the well-known Chinese medicine called Li Zhong Tang decoction (LZT) with given series of boiling time to observe the change of color and concentration of the product after heating to examine the applicability of advanced DOM characterization techniques including Fourier Transform Ion Cyclotron Resonance Mass Spectrometry (FT-ICR-MS), coupling with formula assignment algorithm to evaluate the characterization of this unique Traditional Chinese Medicine
